Ask these questions before you hire a mover.
A short written question list can expose differences that a sales call or headline price hides. Ask every candidate the same questions and save the answers with the estimate.
Ask who will do the work
Ask for the legal name, DBA, USDOT number, and role of every company involved. Confirm who will arrange the move, who will transport the shipment, and who handles delivery questions or a claim.
Ask whether the company has seen the inventory and access details behind the estimate. Use the same facts and questions with each candidate.
- Who is the broker and who is the carrier?
- What is included in the inventory and service list?
- What are the pickup and delivery windows?
Ask about money and responsibility
Ask which estimate type applies, what can change the price, what deposit and cancellation terms apply, and which valuation or liability options are offered. Request unfamiliar terms in writing before you agree.
