Understand claims and valuation before move day.
Protection for household goods is a paperwork question as well as a packing question. Read the valuation options, exclusions, and claims process before the truck arrives.
Read the protection language
Ask the mover to explain each valuation or liability option, its limits, exclusions, cost, and claim deadline. Keep the option you selected with the estimate and agreement, and do not assume the term means the same thing as a separate insurance policy.
Before pickup, document valuable or fragile items and ask which items or services have special rules. The official FMCSA valuation guidance is the right place to begin.
If there is damage or a service problem
Keep the inventory, bill of lading, estimate, photographs, receipts, delivery paperwork, and messages. Follow the mover's written claim process and record when you submitted each document.
MoversFax is an independent, non-government educational service. It does not decide a claim, provide insurance, or promise reimbursement. Review FMCSA's official valuation and problem guidance for the applicable consumer steps.
